Your manuscript and AI

Understand what AI sees.

Writing with AI means sending the material needed for a request outside the editor. This guide describes the current workflow, not a promise that every request sends the whole book.

What is saved in Westward

Your books, chapters, and story-reference material are stored in the application’s database. AI history also records the request description, generated output, selected model, context references, and usage information. Discarding a suggestion from your manuscript does not mean it has been removed from generation history.

What goes to the model

When you run an AI tool, its instructions and prompt are sent through the hosted AI gateway to the selected model provider. Depending on the tool, that prompt can include selected or preceding manuscript text, earlier chapters, your premise, voice guidance, outline, and relevant character or world notes. Context and output length also affect token usage.

Use the context references shown with a result to understand which character and world notes were consulted. Those references are a guide, not a complete copy of everything sent. Keep material you do not want processed by an AI provider out of AI prompts and story context.

Product analytics are separate

Public-page analytics measure visits and navigation without manuscript text, prompts, or account identifiers. Westward can store a limited first-touch source and approved campaign label in your browser for up to 30 days so a later visit can be associated with the same campaign. This is not cross-device tracking.

When product measurement is enabled, signed-in milestones such as opening a workspace, importing a book, receiving an AI result, keeping a draft, saving, and exporting are associated with your account inside Westward. We count each milestone at most once per day. These events exclude manuscript text, prompts, book titles, and filenames. Internal reports can compare these milestones with billing and AI-usage records; they are not anonymous inside Westward.

Browser measurement respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. No Google Ads conversion tag, remarketing pixel, or session replay is included in this measurement setup. Public-page analytics and these milestones do not substitute for the AI request history in your workspace or prove that a suggestion improved your writing.

Account support and optional email

Authorized Westward operators can review account identity, billing summaries, usage counts, and observed milestones to help with account issues. Support notes and access changes are retained in an internal audit history. The customer-operations console does not display manuscript text, prompts, book titles, or filenames.

When lifecycle email is enabled, optional welcome messages, trial reminders, and payment-recovery messages use Resend and the verified primary email on your account. These messages require a separate opt-in in account settings. You can turn them off there or unsubscribe from an email. Delivery and suppression records are kept so we can avoid duplicate messages and stop sending after a bounce or complaint. Manuscript content and private support notes are not included in these emails. Authentication and billing-provider notices remain separate from this preference.
